Expanding on my post on the Non League Matters forum, the current managers of the current top 3 all have part of the club’s name in their name, even if just phonetically:
- CHELsea – Carlo AnC(H)ELotti
- MAN CIty – Roberto MANCIni
- ARSENal – ARSENe Wenger
Continuing in the same vein, MAN Utd will need to replace Alex Ferguson with a manager named MANUel. Manuel Pellegrini? It may not be the best choice, but given the increasing financial constraint on the club’s owners, they may have no choice. Certainly preferable to Manuel Jiménez Jiménez, who replaced Juande Ramos at Sevilla, and is currently in charge at AEK Athens.
Alex Totten, who managed several Scottish clubs between 1980 and 2002, would have nothing to offer Tottenham Hotspur.
I came across Alfred Aston, a former French international, who went on to manage several French clubs. Unfortunately, he died in 2003. Perhaps Houllier could use a spiritual medium to co-manage Aston Villa with him.
