Italian & French Cup Finals

There’s hardly any reference in the football news to the Italian and French Cup Finals, both played yesterday.

Considering that the Final in Italy was between the top two clubs in Serie A, and that Roma’s win prevented Inter from doing the double, and also meant Roma equalled Juventus’ record of 9 wins, you’d have thought it would be more newsworthy.

Maybe it’s the fact that the same 2 clubs have reached the last 4 finals, Inter winning the first two, and Roma winning the last two. Inter and Roma have also finished first and second respectively in Serie A over the last 3 seasons, but I suppose the 2006 scandal had a lot to do with that.

Meanwhile, Lyon completed a league and cup double with their win over Paris St. Germain in the Coupe de France.
