Manager Go-Round

Paul Jewell resigned as manager of Wigan Athletic on 14 May 2007. He was subsequently replaced by Chris Hutchings. Hutchings was sacked on 5 November 2007.

Steve Bruce left his position as manager of Birmingham City on 19 November 2007 to take up the position of manager of Wigan on 20 November 2007.

Alex McLeish is set to be announced as the new manager of Birmingham City today, after resigning as Scotland manager yesterday.

Billy Davies departed as manager of Derby County on 26 November 2007 by “mutual consent”. Paul Jewell has today been announced as his replacement.

Billy Davies is now one of the forerunners to be appointed the new Scotland manager.

Now wouldn’t that be neat – The former Derby manager replacing the former Scotland manager, who replaces the former Birmingham manager, who is a successor to the former Wigan manager, who replaces the former Derby manager.

  1. End of season positions

    18th…..Birmingham City
    19th…..Wigan Atletic
    20th…..Derby County

    season 2008/09
Alex McLeish resigns and takes over from Billy Davies who lost all his games in charge of Scotland as McLeish realised he had made a huge mistake and thought he was taking over Bolton Wanderers.

Steve Bruce is poached by Crystal Palace and Neil Warnock steps into the hot seat at Wigan only to be replaced by Nigel Worthington who resigned from the NI job because he wanted to have another go at proper management.

Paul Jewell recruits Chris Hutchings as his No 2 at Derby only to resign and rejoin Bradford City who are languishing in the Blue Square Premier Division.

Chris Hutchings signs a contract with Derby County for 12 games only and gives way to Martin O’neill……..
yes we could go on forever.

    Good game though isn’t it

  2. Of all the managers mentioned, Billy Davies, is still unemployed. Says a lot of his employability since his fall out with Adam Pearson at Derby County. Even though he has proven ability at Championship level (at both Preston North End and Derby County), he is simply not trusted anymore by chairmen. Really wondered when he will be employed again.
